Crispin Hard Cider and the St. Paul Saints warm up for Second Harvest Heartland
ST. PAUL, MN (January 14, 2009) – Heaven hath frozen over and Saint Crispin is at first base. Crispin Natural Hard Cider and the St. Paul Saints today announced the Crispin Iceball Adventure Series, an outdoor baseball game in February to benefit Second Harvest Heartland.
On Saturday, February 28 the Saints home, Midway Stadium, will turn into a winter wonderland as it hosts the inaugural event pitting Saints players past and present against a team of celebrities. The five-inning contest offers everything a regular season Saints game provides: crazy between promotions (only this time in the snow), appearances by two-legged mascot Mudonna (with frostbite) and entertainment for kids of all ages (appropriately bundled up, of course).
Many people remember the famous “Ice Bowl” in 1967 between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers where game time temperature was 13 below zero. Or perhaps you’re more familiar with snow falling from the Buffalo sky during the NHL’s 2008 Winter Classic. The Crispin Iceball Adventure Series has a chance for both with the average temperature in Minnesota for February usually hovering around 18 degrees with about eight inches of snow on the ground.
The baseball game is a culmination of an afternoon of events. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the Saints will open their parking lot for tailgating. At 2:00 p.m. patrons can enjoy a live band and other entertainment with the game itself beginning at 3:09 p.m.
The afternoon is free of charge and proceeds from Saints food vendors will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland. Fans are encouraged to donate cash, food and warm clothing. In addition, Crispin’s wholesale distributor, J.J. Taylor, will match the dollar amount raised by Crispin Hard Cider consumed through bars, restaurants and liquor stores for the month of February and donate it to Second Harvest Heartland. Sometimes giving back is a worthy adventure in itself.
The Crispin Cider Company is dedicated to the development and marketing of superior pure hard apple cider refreshment. The company is based in Minneapolis, MN. For more information visit

Second Harvest Heartland is the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger-relief organization, with a mission of ending hunger through community partnerships. 41 million pounds of grocery products were distributed last year to hungry seniors, families and children through more than 1,000 non-profit member agencies and programs, including food shelves, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, faith-based organizations and children’s after-school programs serving 59 counties in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. For each $1 donated, Second Harvest Heartland can distribute more than $9 worth of grocery products for those in need. For further information on the non-profit, visit
