ST. PAUL, MN (July 25, 2009) – With the St. Paul Saints short on arms after Brandon Kintzler’s contract was purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers, they went out and signed one of the best pitchers in St. Olaf history, right-hander Todd Mathison. 

 

            The 22-year-old Mathison went 27-7 during his four seasons and played the infield while hitting .351 with eight homers and 97 RBI. His 27 victories tied him with former Saint Charlie Ruud for most victories in Oles history. He was a D-III player to watch this season and went 6-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 76.1 innings pitched. At the plate he hit .367 with five homers and a team high 50 RBI. He earned MIAC All-Conference, MIAC All-Tournament Team, All-Midwest 1^st Team Regional Midwest and All-Tournament Team.

 

            During his freshman season in 2006 he was a sterling 9-0 with a 1.31 ERA in 56.0 innings pitched including 31.1 innings without allowing an earned run in MIAC play. He was MIAC All-Conference and All-Midwest 1^st Team Regional Selection, MIAC All-Tournament Team and 3^rd Team All-American.

 

            Mathison was just as impressive in 2007 going 6-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 41.0 innings pitched and received MIAC All-Conference and All-Midwest 3^rd Team Selection.

 

            In 2008 Mathison was named MIAC Co-Player of the Year along with Hamline University graduate Dan Kaczrowski, whom the Saints signed earlier in the season and was drafted in the 26^th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mathison was 6-2 with a 2.35 ERA in 61.1 innings pitch and was MIAC All-Conference and All-Midwest 2^nd Team Regional.

 

            The Saints roster now stands at 21 players, one shy of the league maximum of 22, nine pitchers and 11 position players.
