ST. PAUL, MN (June 20, 2009) – The St. Paul Saints took care of a season long void at third base as signed Jeff Eure and also signed catcher Kyle Johnson out of Concordia College-Moorhead.
The Saints grabbed the 28-year-old third baseman who was playing for York of the Atlantic League in 2009. This season Eure was hitting .234 with one homer and eight RBI in 37 games. He had a great 2008 campaign with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the Northern League hitting .295 with 13 homers and 62 RBI while playing all 96 games. In 366 at bats he crushed 25 doubles, one triple while scoring 54 runs. He slugged .475 and had an on base percentage of .379.
Eure was an 18th round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2001 and reached Double-A Huntsville in both 2006 and 2007. He played in Friday night’s game for the Saints and went 1-3 with a double and two RBI.
The 22-year-old Johnson had an outstanding career at Concordia College-Moorhead and earned numerous honors this season. He was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Regional First Team and was selected MIAC Player of the Year. He set a school record for homers with 14. Eure also slugged an incredible .947, also a team record which placed him third in all of Division III. He was seventh in the nation in home runs per game (0.42), 11th in homers and 27th in on base percentage (.540). He hit .404 and had 36 RBI.
Saints outfielder Daron Roberts retired. He was hitting .282 with two homers and 22 RBI in 31 games. The Saints also released pitcher Lonnie Robinson. He was 1-0 with an 8.53 ERA and one save in seven games.
The Saints roster is at the league maximum 22 players, 13 position players and nine pitchers.
